Freek Street (Composed by Alex Poulton) (Four night Run at Station Theatre, Hayling)

The music is lively, rhythmic and always engaging, with some slower, reflective moments providing a well judged contrast.  The instrumental parts …. were played here by a very strong line up of instrumentalists.

I really enjoyed watching a non mental health focused production, that acknowledged mental health. Additionally how someone’s struggles can be affected by someone else, without ill intent. For me, it highlighted the need for more everyday conversations before a crisis point is reached (which we see with Connie). Particularly well handled was the transgender storyline with Stevie’s character. I liked that there wasn’t just a regular happy ending. Many characters continued to struggle after the curtain drops, but they are more aware of the issues potentially affecting them and the support available. I did walk away humming knicker elastic.

For the Love of Undine…by Alex Poulton played to packed houses and was given a very warm reception. Let us hope it is taken up by groups up and down the country.
